Choosing
Weighing a side job before you say yes
Two side jobs with the same hourly pay can weigh very differently. Before saying yes, look at what the work asks of your week, not just what it pays.
Fixed or flexible?
Work you can pick up and put down, such as listing items or simple online tasks, is light to carry. Work with fixed slots, such as a weekly lesson or a shift answering messages, is heavier, because it has to happen even on a bad week at your job.
When does the money arrive?
Some platforms pay weekly, others monthly, others only above a minimum balance. Find out before you start, so the first weeks don't feel like nothing is happening.
What does it cost to carry?
- Platform and payment fees
- Equipment, software or stock
- Travel, postage and packaging
- Tax on what's left
Who depends on you?
Clients, students and shop owners will plan around you. Only agree to commitments you could keep through a busy month at your main job.
